The incident occurred in Darien on Monday, March 25 around 4:30 p.m. on Ledge Road.

According to Sgt. Dan Skoumbros of the Darien Police, officers were dispatched to the area of Whole Foods Market on a report that a man had just forcibly taken money from a woman.

An officer spotted two men walking towards the rear of Darien Sport Shop and one of them fit the description given of the men, Skoumbros said.

The victim said that she exited Whole Foods and was approached by two men and one of them asked if she could donate money to his “March Madness pool."

The victim said that when she pulled out her wallet and exposed her cash inside, one of the men aggressively pulled the cash from her hands and ran toward Post Road. After the victim provided a better description of the two men, officers located them in the Darien Sports Shop parking lot., Skoumbros said.

The two denied being involved in the incident. The victim was transported to the location and she immediately identified both of them, he added.

The first suspect, Jayden Lopez, of the Bronx, when searched, had a medium-sized fixed-blade sheath knife in his front jacket pocket.

The other suspect was identified as Corey Hampton of Queens.

Both Lopez and Hampton were charged with robbery and larceny. Lopez was also charged with carrying a dangerous weapon.

Both men are being held on a $30,000 bond which they could not make.
